Bane’s Voice To Get A Slight Tweak
If there was one common complaint about “The Dark Knight Rises” prologue over the weekend it was with Bane’s voice. The combination of a large mask, an unusual accent donned by actor Tom Hardy, and varying degrees of presentation audio quality at cinemas has lead to concern over the problem being carried over into the final film.
Indeed, the HD trailer for the film released yesterday features a line of dialogue from the character (“When Gotham is ashes…you have my permission to die”) that some are having issues understanding.
Now Heat Vision reports that the concern is rising within Warners itself. The studio is said to be “very aware of the sound issue” and one source is quite scared over what’s being called “the Bane problem”.
The thing is the studio doesn’t want to screw with the potential of success for ‘Rises’ and Nolan’s track record with the studio has earned him a lot of autonomy. While Warners would like Nolan to change the sound mix, the director informed executives that he’s planning only to “alter the sound slightly” and not rework it completely (so no major ADR sessions).
So what if you have a problem keeping up? Then it’s your problem – “Chris wants the audience to catch up and participate rather than push everything at them. He doesn’t dumb things down. You’ve got to pedal faster to keep up.” Nolan previously indicated it was OK for a moviegoer not to understand what was said at times, as long as the overall idea was conveyed.
Editing is still in full swing and an early cut of it is not expected to be screened internally at the studio for at least a few months.
