Timbers Helming “Heck” Adaptation

Alex Timbers is in final negotiations to make his feature directorial debut on “Heck” at MGM says Variety.

An adaptation of the bestselling children’s book series by Dale E. Basye, the story follows a boy and his older sister who die in a freak accident and are sent to Heck, a reform school for kids in the afterlife where teachers include Richard Nixon and Lizzie Borden.

The duo plan to escape with the help of a map-wielding friend. Heavily inspired by “Dante’s Inferno”, it’s the first entry in a multi-book series so the company is no doubt eyeing franchise potential.

“Saturday Night Live” scribe David Iserson penned the original draft which Chris Weitz is re-writing. Karen Rosenfelt is producing.

Timbers is a Tony-nominated writer/director and creator of acclaimed rock musical “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”. He’s also helming “Rocky: The Musical” which premieres in Europe later this year.
