Kajganich Joins “The Stand”

David Kajganich has signed on to pen the script for The Stand.

Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, the big-screen adaptation will be directed by Ben Affleck.

Kajganich was apparently brought to Affleck’s attention by his work on a forthcoming adaptation of King’s legendary, clown-based horror story It.

The Stand tells the story of a world ravaged by abiological weapon, in which the survivors wage war in a final battle between good and evil.

Ben Affleck To Direct King’s “The Stand”

Ben Affleck has been selected (but is not yet signed) as director for the adaptation of Stephen King’s magnum opus “The Stand” at Warner Bros. Pictures and Vertigo Pictures says Deadline.

The novel, first published in 1978 and revised in 1990, is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. The survivors end up fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

The length of the work has made it an extremely difficult property to adapt into a stand-alone feature film. The sole previous screen attempt was a 1994 mini-series on ABC.

Yates To Direct “The Stand”

Fresh off the success of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, director David Yates has been tapped to direct the big-screen version of Stephen King’s The Stand.

Yates will work with Hallows screenwriter Steve Klovles on the project, reports Hitfix.

According to the report, the adaptation of the novel would take place over multiple films.

King’s The Stand centres on the impact of a virus which manages to kill 99% of the human population, leaving only two gangs battling against each other for supremacy in the post-apocalyptic world.

The best-selling novel has been adapted as a six-hour mini-series.
